Nicole's Story Behind The Painting:
The sky above, surrounding trees, and the skyline reflected onto the water and all contributed to the colors of the waves that rippled across the water that flowed under the Verrazano Bridge. Yet, at the same time, I knew that a whole world existed underneath the waves, a world I could not see from where I stood, peering over a railing on the edge of the bike path.
With each passing second, I noticed subtle changes that altered my view: clouds shifting, sunlight pulsing in and out, my body always moving even if just slightly, birds flying overhead, boats moving across the water. And in that moment, I could feel so many other changes, more than I could ever count or name, constantly changing the whole view. And despite all these constant shifts, I could feel something whole in what I was seeing.
Whenever I return to this particular spot, looking at the water fills me with a sense of peace that feels real and steady, even as everything changes over and over and over again.
