Art Appreciation: Man and Matisse by Nicole Bricker Image:
Through observation and eavesdropping, I gather stories to create works that portray the times of our lives that are often overlooked or seen as mundane or unimportant. Watching others interact provide an opportunity to see the world through different perspectives. Art Appreciation: Man and Matisse is created from my observances at art institutions and how phone use inhibits our experiences viewing art with our own sensory systems. Created from observations and photos, this piece begins with a layer of bright ground, sketched in charcoal, and layers of oil paint create the emotions of my perspective.
