This little dinghy rests on the rocky shoreline of the St. Croix River Pier in Hudson. When its owners want to go sailing, they use this tiny little boat to row out to the big sailboat that is moored off shore. This summer has been rainy and cloudy, but this particular day the sun was shining in all of its glory--lighting up anything in its path and throwing all kinds of reflected light into the shadows.
This piece is the beginning of my experimentation with "fovealism." I invented this term to mean having one small area that has crisp edges. I chose the focal point to be the knot of the rope. Everything else has very soft edges and is slightly off focus...the way our eyesight sees objects in the periphery when we focus on a single thing.
