Don't Stand So Close To Me by Miriam Traher Image: It's all about expression, mark-making, fun and colour. These pieces are vibrant and dynamic and bring a smile. The process is intuitive and dynamic, spontaneously layering paint, collaging bits and layers of marks, and generally in very expressive arm movements. I try to use anything but a paintbrush, using my fingers, trowels, rulers, bowl scrapers, etc., to create as uncontrolled a mark as possible. Often transparent paint is layered to allow the shapes, patterns and lines to show through to the next layer. Marks of graphite, pencil, oil pastel, crayons and pencil crayons are intermixed with the layers to connect all the elements. Many collage papers are created by hand, often using leftover palette paint from previous works.
