Black and white bottle with frog and pig decorations. Thrown, altered, carved. Some carvings especially deep. The artist's distinctive white and black slips for decoration. This form is relatively unusual for the black/white gas-fired earthenware style.
This piece was made and fired in the artist's Ithaca, NY, summer studio (fired in the gas kiln). It sat for some period of time on the left wall of the kin shelf with a similar contrasting piece. These pieces were in place as of 2020 but most likely for a significant period of time prior. The matching piece was sold or otherwise disappeared from the shelf between August 2020 and July 2021, when this was purchased.
