Lidded vessel with black and white design of five faces. Thrown, carved, and altered earthenware. The artist's distinctive white slip and black slip applied, including fingermarks.
This jar sat behind the artist's gas kiln in the kiln shed in his Ithaca, NY, summer studio for some significant period of time (possibly decades). A photograph of it in place is included in the gallery above. Note that the vacant spot shown was the location for item #30 (https://www.artworkarchive.com/profile/middleton-ceramics/artwork/large-black-white-lidded-vessel-with-the-usual-suspects) which was acquired by this collection the prior summer.
