This painting was inspired during time spent working in my studio in Jerome, Arizona, overlooking the vast landscape stretching toward Sedona. Watching the weather move across the high desert — the shifting cloud formations, wind patterns, and expansive skies — became a major influence on this piece.
While creating it, I was also studying the movement, instinct, and physical energy found in Jackson Pollock’s work. I wanted to combine that sense of raw motion with the atmospheric presence of the Western landscape — capturing the feeling of storms rolling across open land and the dialogue between sky and terrain.
The layered drips, gestures, and textures reflect both the physical landscape of Northern Arizona and the emotional impact of its scale, solitude, and changing light.
