Wood and acrylic paint
Circle mandala. Outer border left unpainted. Center of mandala embellished with an elaborate silversmith button. Gold star painted around the silver button, followed by a blue tribal border, then a gold border with eight rounded edges. Red triangles painted in between the the outer gold border.
The Recycling the Sacred collection is composed of mandalas whose materials were primarily sourced from second hand stores. The artist began collecting variations of wood from second hand stores to later repurpose and give them "a new dignity and life." Many of the patterns used are inspired by ancient native cultures, particularly the basket and pottery designs of the Huhugam. Most of the mandalas take a circle shape, celebrating the Sacred Circle symbol and our place in it.
