Carved by artist in the Traditional Japanese Noh mask style. The Japanese Mihon Noh Mask series are comprised of masks that represent demons, gods, and ghosts from ancient Buddhist mythology. Noh mask's are typically carved with cypress then painted over, but mahagony was chosen to create a distinct style for the artist.
Demon face. Two horns poking through the top of the head. Two crescent shapes touching back to back compose the eyebrows. Rectangular shaped eyes with rounded edges. Circular shaped pupils carved and punched out. Small cheeks and large mouth area. Both rows of teeth showing, with fangs on the ends. Mouth opened wide, with tongue sticking out slightly. Four lines carved on the chin.
