Ricky #26. Plaster bandage, paper clay, painted with acrylics. Part of the Sun Serpent Series.
Full face male figure hand-held mask. Mask has a horizontal bar in the back, used by actor to hold instead of wear to quickly change characters. Mask has raised sculpted eyebrows painted brown with carved hairlines. Eyes have the iris painted a light brown, almost yellow, with black outlines, and white on the sides. Mask has a mustache that connects to a bearded goatee, sculpted and painted brown with carved hairlines. Mouth is closed with lips painted light red. Overall face is painted darker tan with red and brown undertones.
The Sun Serpent was a play produced by Childsplay and CALA Alliance, performed at Tempe Center for the Arts in 2011.
Artist and sculptor Zarco Guerrero made about 30 masks for the performance. All of the masks were made directly on the actors to better fit them during the performance.
