Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Calaca mask with off-white painted base. Blue heard in between the eyebrows, outlined in purple. Border of eyes painted in pink and outlined in blue with white dots inside. Black nose tips. Outer border of teeth painted in red, inner border painted in black. Purple swirls on each side of the forehead, cheeks, jaw, and chin. Blue and orange brush stroke lines on the forehead.
