Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Calaca mask with off-white painted base. Pink, blue, purple, and orange color scheme. Top borders of eyes painted in light and dark purple. Light purple swirls starting at eyes and extending to cheeks on both sides. Orange and yellow lines on each side of the cheek, underneath the purple swirl. Blue swirls on each side of the jaw. Pink eye-shaped outline on chin with an orange dot in the center. Orange dot on the center of forehead outlined in pink. Purple nose tip. Outer border of teeth outlined in pink, inner border outlined in purple.
