Wood and acrylic paint
Mandala with rectangular shape towards the top extending into a circle shape towards the bottom. Yellow triangle carving in the center with two additional triangles on both of the top corners. Red circle outline towards the bottom center. Two thin purple rectangles between the triangle and circle. Four blue tribal shapes outside of the triangle and circle.
The Recycling the Sacred collection is composed of mandalas whose materials were primarily sourced from second hand stores. The artist began collecting variations of wood from second hand stores to later repurpose and give them "a new dignity and life." Many of the patterns used are inspired by ancient native cultures, particularly the basket and pottery designs of the Huhugam. Most of the mandalas take a circle shape, celebrating the Sacred Circle symbol and our place in it.
