Esclavizado. Plaster bandage, paper clay, painted with acrylics. Part of the Sun Serpent Series.
Full face handheld mask of male figure. Overall mask is smooth and painted brown. Eyebrows and mustache that connects to a chin beard/goatee are all raised sculpted and carved with hairlines and painted black. Eyes have dark brown iris, outlined with black line, and white on both sides with reddish tint. Lips are painted a light red on top of brown with patch of hair beneath lower lip.
The Sun Serpent was a play produced by Childsplay, performed at Tempe Center for the Arts in 2011.
Artist and sculptor Zarco Guerrero made about 30 masks for the performance. All of the masks were made directly on the actors to better fit them during the performance.
