Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Calaca mask with off-white painted base. Painted with orange, green, yellow, red, and light blue color scheme. Cluster design on the forehead in all five colors. Red swirl on each side of temples, extending towards the cheeks. Top border of eyes painted in light blue with dark blue outline. Circle clusters on each cheek painted in yellow, orange, and green, outlined in purple. Nose painted purple. Outer border of teeth outlined in pink, inner border outlined in purple. Light blue, swirly lines below each side of the mouth. Red and orange swirl shaped designs on chin.
