This is a back painted duratran and light box assembly. The gold inlay only shows up when the lights are on. Otherwise the piece can be illuminated from the front and is simply monochromatic.
The story of the work is both historic and has a deep family history. The owner of the tattoo and gun owns a restaurant in Fort Worth. The guns were designed by his great grandfather in Mexico as part of the families metal and decorative gun smithing business. The guns are over 100 years old. The restaurant owners dad designed the tattoo and the entire family works in the new restaurant business. The design of the work illustrates four generations of family heritage flowing from guns decorative gold inlay design to hand to decorative tattoo. The work is titled "The Hand That Feeds" because it literally is a hand that feeds.
