WIth an investigative eye and craftsman’s hand, Marshall Harris creates life sized photo suggestive drawings of nude figure studies and objects laboriously executed with graphite on Mylar. He chooses common everyday people and utilitarian objects that he finds intriguing in their complexity. The drawings bring the viewers attention to minute attributes that may be routinely overlooked. The extraordinary attention to detail and significance behind those characteristics requires looking deeply into the history of an object to discover what’s beneath it’s skin and what makes it’s experiences relevant.
Harris has developed the skills to work successfully with an extensive array of media and materials. The understanding of processes and his artistic values are evident in the imaginative quality of his life sized drawings and mixed media sculptures. Harris includes discarded objects within his sculptural work to create what he refers to as "aesthetic landfill". This is most evident in a piece titled “Broken Crayons” which incorporates a large assortment of obsolete computer components as well as hundreds of discarded floppy disks.
Born and raised in Texas, Marshall Harris received his BFA from Texas Christian University and Masters Degree in sculpture from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia PA. Following his career in the National Football League, Harris turned his attentions towards creative vocations including Museum Curator, Graphic Designer, Interior Designer for restaurants and Exhibit Designer for zoos and aquaria and finally fine artist. Some of his design work include exhibits for zoos and aquaria in Antwerp and Taiwan as well as for US Aquaria and Science Museums.
His work is shown in galleries throughout the U.S and is held in several private collections.
