Ocean Spirit by Marcella Hayes Muhammad Image: For this painting, I used the influence of the Inuit traditional designs within the abstraction such as masks, whales and fish. Inuit are a marine people, dependent on the Arctic Ocean for transportation and its marine resources for food security. This connection to land and ice gives Inuit a great sense of pride and community well-being which is now threatened. The ocean in this painting surrounds the central Inuit cultural elements. Bubbles showcasing the harsh reality of the varied crisis within our planet's oceans that affect the all life on this planet.
