Marcella Hayes Muhammad
Church Lady by Marcella Hayes Muhammad Image: This is part of my whimsical character series. It has traditionally been a repetitive scene of African American culture to see the matriarch of the family in her best attire and signature hat attending Sunday service without fail. This painting captures both the demure woman and the woman with outward strength and determination to get the whole family into the church. This was essentially my Grandmother and when she said it was time to go, no one dared to argue.
