Made with the bioluminescent spores of Jack O’ Lantern mushrooms/Omphalotus olearius and the rust-colored spores of Scaly Pholiota/Pholiota squarrosa foraged in western Mass, fall of 2021. Depicts Fennel/Foeniculum vulgare, an herb historically believed to impart strength and courage; in magic circles it’s associated with clarity and with finding solutions to difficult situations. Some say Prometheus carried the sun’s fire to earth on a giant a stalk of fennel. I gathered the umbels of fennel at the Penland School for Craft and brought them to western Massachusetts in late August of 2021.
