Inspiration:
"I was inspired by an old friend I found selling vegetables and fruit on the side of the road in Puerto Rico in a shanty fruit stand. After a long conversation with him I discovered we are related. He's been selling vegetables for over 40 yrs. My mother and I bought vegetables from him and with his old arthritic hands he whipped out his smart phone to do the math while captivating us with stories. Love him!"

The Higuera tree of Puerto Rico bears a hard-shelled fruit which has been crafted into eating vessels, musical instruments for centuries.
Made from fabric, Birch Wood, cardboard + cinnamon and resin (to render the roof), clay, non-toxic fabric hardener.
Artist rendered small "ditas" vessels from dried shells of "quenepas asiáticas" (Kohala longan fruit) she brought back from her last trip to Puerto Rico.
