Here is the latest in my pursuit of creating art quilts without parallel edges. This is made of various gold silks with a bit of Kona cotton, and quilted with a variety of threads, including my first use of metallic gold thread. In addition to the top, back and batting, I ironed into it a stiff Pellon craft fabric to make it hang firm on the wall. It measures 21” tall x 42.5” wide.
“Field of the Cloth of Gold.” I’ve always been fascinated with Tudor England.
The Field of the Cloth of Gold was a summit meeting between King Henry VIII of England and King Francis I of France in 1520. The event derived its name from the sumptuousness of the materials used for the tents, pavilions and other furnishings. So magnificent was the occasion that it became known as the Field of Cloth of Gold. This piece is made from various gold silks and a bit of cotton, and is quilted with a variety of threads including metallic gold.
