I've collected fabrics from Africa since my time as a Peace Corps volunteer in Kenya. On my quilt bucket list was to try the Cathedral Windows block and Prairie Points. I love how this piece juxtaposes the vivid contemporary African fabrics with a traditional quilt block and binding technique that is typically made with white or light fabrics. It's embellished with repurposed buttons from men's shirts and sewn with metallic gold thread.
