John McLean (d.2019) is considered to be one of the outstanding abstract painters of his generation. Colour, form and space are the core elements of his work – his signature style is a free flowing painterly composition where luminosity and rhythm run throughout.
McLean spent summers in Saskatoon, where light and landscape was a strong influence. He was also a long term resident of the Barbican.
