The Chisos Basin is a mountain oasis in the Chihuahuan Desert of Big Bend National Park. Prickly pear cactus is interspersed with pine. The Window is a landmark rock pour off, a watershed onto the desert below. It is aptly named, a view across an expanse of Far West Texas.
This painting was inspired by a hike we made one January afternoon as the weather shifted seasons in a few minutes, adding the moody violet shadows and casting the high desert in winter colors.
