Point of Rocks is a distinctive landmark on the Davis Mountains Scenic Loop. I see it from my studio, and we pass by it on our way to almost anywhere. It was the first rest stop on the historic trade route between El Paso and San Antonio, an oasis of sorts for the Butterfield-Overland Express riders and stages. I love to paint its glowing rocks when summer clouds cast their special lights and shadows.
