The Davis Mountains rise into the broad Far West Texas sky, where sunrise brings dramatic color into the day. On this dawn, we were driving the Davis Mt. Scenic Loop with our dog, our parrot and a Thermos of hot coffee. I turned around to check on the animals just in time to see the cloud-laced early morning sun paint craggy Sawtooth Peak in the reds and oranges of its volcanic origins.
