In late summer, the monsoon rains fall over grassland parched by the dry West Texas winter and spring. The growing season is a short one in the high desert, but its long enough to turn the mountains green almost overnight. Amber grass, purple mountains and cinnabar green cactus under a blue blue sky means Indian summer in the Davis Mountains. It's a good season.
