A hawk gracefully navigates a dense stand of golden aspen in a moment both timeless and fleeting. This vintage oil painting, one of my earliest landscape works, is from a hike near the Continental Divide in Colorado. It's a testimony to my deep connection to nature and the stories it tells. The interplay of light filtering through the leaves creates a warm, inviting atmosphere, inviting you to step into this serene stand of aspen and hike it with me. Looking at this several decades later, I'm surprised that I had the courage to attempt this light play as a young painter. I think it works!
The hawk, soaring effortlessly among the trees, embodies freedom and grace. Each brushstroke captures not just the physical beauty of the landscape but also the thump of wings and the quiet energy of the bird's freedom. The flickering golds of aspen leaves evoke warmth and nostalgia--beauty is found in quiet moments.
This vintage artwork is more than just a depiction of a hawk in flight; it’s an invitation to pause, reflect, and appreciate the intricate dance of life that unfolds around us daily. I hope it inspires a sense of wonder and gratitude, much like the experience I had, first seeing it, then, creating it.
