Cafe Alfresco - Roma

Painted from photo references and sketches based on recent trip to Italy. Spending a few days in Rome, my son and his girlfriend, showed me all their favorite spots. I just loved the way the light created the dramatic shadow patterns across the ground. There was a fascinating warm glow within the shadow area playing on both the warm and cool colors with glazes and layers. I loved add surface texture to this piece. I think it works so well with the weathered stucco walls, the faded green paint on the door and the cobblestone. This piece brings back wonderful memories.
