Artist Bio
The mixed-media works of international artist Irmgard Geul are best viewed as contemporary landscapes and maps capturing a bird’s eye view of her internal creative explorations scanning the tracts of landscape below and the unfathomable ocean of sky above.
Born and raised in The Netherlands, Irmgard grew up in a rural town south of Amsterdam. She received her art degree at the HKU University of the Arts in Utrecht in 1986 and has been a full-time artist since, supported by several jobs in graphic and fashion design.
Her mixed-media work is constantly evolving in the urge to map her memories and to tell the stories of her adventures around the world and about rural Oklahoma where she has an art studio on a horse ranch, her home since arriving from The Netherlands in 2003.
Her work has been featured in the Curbside Chronicle, The Norman Transcript, Art Focus Oklahoma, Oklahoma Today, Artsy Shark, and on OETA/Gallery America. Her work has been in group and solo exhibitions in galleries throughout the U.S. and Internationally. She has private and corporate collectors around the world.
Piece Description
“The AAA represents for me the industrial smell of steel, success, and hard labor,” Irmgard says. “The rectangular and square black and gray lines in the background represent the Kimray factory where all the hard work is done. By layering the painting constructively with paper, paint, adhesive medium, and embroidery thread, I felt like building the AAA myself. It was truly a labor of love to show off this classic red.”
