Artist Bio

Jerry Bergin is an award-winning contemporary mixed media artist. He holds a B.A. in Fine Art Education and has worked as a muralist and decorative painter, including for Six Flags Inc., where his hand-painted signs and murals were seen in theme parks all around the world.

Jerry works on wood panel or plexiglass with his own unique blend of proprietary plasters and a well-balanced use of color. The southwestern imagery in his current body of work is made from intricate, hand-cut stencils, a subtle nod to his inspiration by and appreciation for urban street art. Jerry resides in Edmond with his wife Ali and three children.

Piece Description

“Initially, I was flattered to be asked to do a commission piece for the AAA series at Kimray,” Jerry says. “But as I toured the campus, met the employees, and spoke at length with Thomas Hill, I began to realize I was far more than flattered; I was genuinely honored. I was moved to learn about the four Core Values that govern the way Kimray does business, and it changed the way I viewed the project. I felt inspired and compelled to add something special to the piece in an effort to elevate it so as to make it worthy of being on the walls of such an extraordinary workplace.

“I started the piece the same way I start all of my pieces: by painting the background. But before I started working on the subject matter, I added a ‘secret message’ of sorts. I hand-painted the four Core Values onto the background where the AAA would eventually be painted.

“Once the painting was finished, the viewer might never know the secret that went ‘into’ the painting of the valve. The idea behind this action is symbolic of Kimray’s business philosophy: Kimray makes parts for the oil industry in order to fulfill a much higher calling to honor God and strengthen families. Anyone driving by their business campus may never know what is taking place behind the doors at Kimray other than the manufacturing of parts. But in reality, there’s a special ‘secret message’ shaping the lives of the people that Kimray hires to build those parts. It was this concept that I wanted to bring honor to as I worked on this piece.”
