Unmistakably modern, Sage Gibson’s work provides a glimpse of personal life experiences in a multitude of mediums and themes. The exotic flavors, rhythm, and culture from nearby Mexico are a constant resource and her style is celebrated with vibrant colors and loose, simple compositions with a Texas twang.

Sage claims as influences Picasso (her favorite, perhaps from sharing the same birthdate of Oct. 25, or his claim that at 85 he was just learning to draw!), Jackson Pollock (because he was free with paint and textural surfaces), Jasper Johns, and Matisse.

Her preferred medium is acrylic; it has a fast and spontaneous quality that oils and watercolors lack. This is desirable because she spends every second of a painting session standing. Tools are also very important to her. She uses long, large brushes or palettes to apply, scrape, and layer paint.

Her philosophy is to eliminate the gap from creative impulse to what hits the canvas. She often works on several pieces at once, going back and forth between them. This allows her to change perspective and adds to the spontaneity and creative process.
