Artist Bio
Kasie Sallee is a contemporary painter inspired by the beauty and perfect imperfection of nature. Her work mimics the organic shapes of the natural world as a way to express and invoke emotion. Her hope is to draw the viewer in with a spark of curiosity.
“I call my work ‘Emotive Landscapes,’” she says.
Emotive is an adjective meaning, “arousing or able to arouse intense feeling.”
“My artwork gives the viewer the feeling of ‘a place remembered,’ both physical and emotional. While the pieces often hint at oceans, skies, rivers, and other natural elements, it’s more the landscape of a dream or memory that comes to mind. I travel often to hike and explore the wild and use these experiences as a way to tap into inspiration for my art.”
Piece Description
“The pieces start with a mood or feeling,” Kasie says. “In preparation for the Kimray AAA piece, I was honored to be given a tour of the Kimray campus and get a glimpse of the heart, passion, and sense of community that are a driving force for this company.
“There was a feeling of unity and excitement. I saw how every role was equally valued; from manufacturing, to engineering, to shipping, to publicity and graphic design.
“As I spoke with CEO Thomas Hill, I heard again of Kimray’s passion for community, not only within its own walls, but also the community at large. I was deeply touched and wanted to bring that sense of unity and excitement into this piece.
“I work on yupo paper mounted to wood board. I find that the more I allow my intuition to come through, the more often the piece will connect to viewers in a deep, emotional way. In every piece, it’s the combination of different inks and mediums that create the beautiful and unexpected textures. To me, this perfectly symbolizes the unity of Kimray. As the inks flow together and interact, they create depth and interest in the work. I finished my AAA piece off by adding splashes of gold ink radiating outward. I wanted to use these splashes to express the excitement I felt within the company and how I see it flowing outward and impacting the community.”
