Tree Boat depicts a solitary mangrove tree carried across a dark sea in a small vessel, invoking ancient symbols of renewal and migration. Inspired by mythic imagery in which sacred trees are ferried to new lands, the work reflects contemporary realities of climate-induced displacement—of species, ecosystems, and cultures. The mangrove, a species known for resilience at the threshold of land and sea, becomes a living emblem of survival and adaptation. Created using collaged kozo paper on dyed muslin, the image layers ecological fact with archetypal meaning. Latitude and longitude lines subtly mark the work with a specific place, while the boat’s quiet crossing evokes both loss and hope. Tree in Boat asks: as our world shifts, what do we carry forward, and what takes root in new soil?
