Lines, Curves & Emotion | Series: 1-12, ink on paper (digital to print) | Kenneth Wilan

Lines equal motion. It is what animates a painting, gives it motion, gives it life. When it is there it is there. You see it, you feel it. I know I have it without looking at a painting, it is a feeling, knowledge that happens simultaneously as I make a stroke with the pen, the brush. I feel it through my arm, connecting my brain and hand and motion and stroke and what appears on the canvas — be it paper, glass screen, canvas. It is palpable as emotion. It is what gives this set of paintings their magic. The electrical charge that brings them to life. And with this set I take a step beyond. Keeping the basic structure, the definition in overall time, but changing the feeling, the emotion that emerges from this creature person — factotum, a human, a person — from one microsecond to another. Through the eyes. Which change as a person changes what they are thinking, how they are feeling, where they are directing their gaze, from one moment to the next. Moment to moment. Feeling and emotion to feeling and emotion. Through time. The human experience. Caught in clicks of the shutter, movements of the pen and brush. Call him/her/they what you want, but you can feel their emotion. + Available in artist numbered & signed limited-edition museum-quality prints in archival pigmented ink on archival art paper; special request prints customized to ink color and paper/canvass size; and NFTs.

New Style

New Style… I start with a photo I have taken of something that I find interesting. I import it to my digital canvas and have an extended look. I will often see other patterns, objects, things, people, creatures in it. I also play with light and color, layering, shapes, etc. to see what may appear. When I see something new I play with it digitally, paint it out and coax it into further existence and create something new from something actual plus what’s in my brain, or maybe something that already exists and in a way I am documenting an alternative or deeper way of seeing. Form, process, cognition, paint.
