Hi there, Aubrey!
I’m so happy that this steer skull is going to be part of your new room in Telluride! I had so much fun creating it just for you — in forest green and pink, colors that feel strong, bright, and full of life.
The piece is called “Praevidus” {pry-VEE-dus}. That’s a Latin word that means “to look ahead” or “to see what’s coming.” I chose it because it reminds me of a guardian — someone who keeps watch and looks out for what’s next.
There’s a bit of a story behind this one too. Long ago, there was said to be a wise old steer who wandered the open plains, slow and steady, listening to the wind and understanding the rhythm of the land. The people believed he could see what storms or blessings were on their way — a quiet protector who guided them toward brighter horizons.
That spirit — calm, brave, and watchful — lives in this piece. So when Praevidus hangs in your room, imagine it carrying a little of that wise, peaceful energy, reminding you to be courageous, curious, and always yourself.
Praevidus is pronounced “pry-VEE-dus.”
First part: “prae” sounds like “pry”
Middle: “vi” sounds like “vee”
End: “dus” sounds like “dus,” with a soft “u” as in “dust”
