Fiorello is an Italian masculine name meaning "little flower". This guy was originally created at the very beginning of my creative journey. He was navy blue with a celestial goddess theme. I found him at my favorite store, 12 Vultures and he was one of the first really "expensive" skulls I treated myself to. I have since found, of course, that there are even more expensive skulls to bead, but this was a first as I was beginning to be more confident in my skulls. He was at Ahmyo River Gallery for a bit over a year and didn't find a permanent home. I picked him up on my way down to Mexico in January 2025 and decided to re-art him.
Re-arting may be a unique thing to me, but I am pretty certain that many artists look at items they have created in the past and thought - OOH, I could do better!
I based Fiorello on the beautiful resin floral broach I found in Florida. I loved the subtle tones and enjoyed creating a whole skull with muted tones, especially when I polished up the beautiful dark horns. The contrast is stunning and really shows off the horns.
One of the interesting things I found is that the rams heads are very challenging to hang on the wall, as the horns protrude so far behind the skull. I elected to make this one a table mount instead. It would look amazing on a bookshelf.
