Chitta Vritta, Sanskrit for mind chatter, centers on the idea of surface, both as a physical element in the artwork and as a metaphor for the mind’s shifting states. The textured surface, created through layered collage papers, ink, and acrylic, captures the restless energy of scattered thoughts at the top of the painting. This rough, complex surface reflects the chaotic “monkey mind” before focus.
As the eye moves downward, the surface changes, becoming smoother and calmer, symbolizing how focused breathing quiets mental noise and brings tranquility beneath the surface. This transition in texture and surface quality mirrors my yoga practice, where vitality and mindfulness grow beneath the busy surface of everyday life. The painting invites viewers to look beyond the surface, recognizing that true peace comes from the deeper layers of attention and care.
