In the summer of 2024 my vacation was spent visiting cemeteries . I was struck by the serenity and beauty of both the surroundings and monuments. This piece was started in the car on the way home inspired by those places and the pictures taken. What I couldn’t have anticipated at the time was that I would ultimately finish it by my mother’s side. As I worked, I found myself bearing witness to her quiet passing from cancer. This work, then, became not only a reflection on memory and loss but also a deeply personal meditation on the hope found in death.
