Juju Bartush Reeves. Artist Statement
My artistic journey is fueled by a passion for exploration and a desire to create works that form emotional connections with viewers. I draw inspiration from the natural world and the intricacies of human emotion, blending classical principles with experimental practices to capture the “space between smoke and fire”—those ephemeral moments that linger in our memories.
In my “One with Nature” series, I explore the human connection to nature as a sanctuary for healing and self-discovery. Through the merging of human figures with botanical elements, I seek to convey the idea that nature, in its raw beauty, offers an escape from the complexities of the modern world. The textures, colors, and fluid compositions are designed to transport viewers into a space of calm reflection, where the boundaries between human and natural existence blur.
In contrast, my “Entangled” series embraces the tension of the unknown, using fabric as a medium to construct layered, sculptural artworks. I incorporate upcycled textiles, vibrant color palettes, and organic forms to create wall sculptures that incite curiosity and discussion. Each knot, twist, and fold symbolizes the complexities of life, relationships, and the struggles of navigating the world without becoming bound by its constraints.
My goal as an artist is to invite viewers to experience a sense of immersion—whether through the gaze of a figure in my figurative work or through the tactile complexity of my abstract creations. I hope to inspire moments of escape, curiosity, and emotional connection that leave a lasting impression.
