I created this as a demonstration painting during an abstract painting workshop I taught this past summer. It defined and set the tone for the week. Each of my ten students told me they signed up for my class because they wanted to break free from realistic art making, graphic design jobs, and tired routines of working in the studio. I told them they needed to be brave so I painted boldly in front of them, answering their questions and explaining my choices as I worked through the piece.
