I create a range of work that is inspired by my joy, curiosity and awe of nature. It is a synthesis of art, design, environmental science, culture and craft.
MessageThe quilt design is inspired by physical characteristics of the selected leaves. The strongly-veined leaves of Hydrangea quercifolia have veins that join with other veins to form polygons of similar size and shape. Areoles are the smallest areas of the leaf tissue surrounded by veins and include FEVs, the freely ending ultimate veins of the leaf. The quilt pattern and overall shape are directly taken from one section of an Oakleaf Hydrangea leaf. The color range and veining structure are highlighted with the leaf selection and placement in the quilt.
