I've always enjoyed watching nature programs about salmon migrations and the rapid, dynamic patterns of movement they make. The health of salmon populations are an excellent barometer for understanding climate change indicators.
This is "Salmon Run", an intuitive pastel and alcohol wash on watercolor paper (Arches 140 lb. coldpress), unframed. The shapes of the salmon emerged as rubbing alcohol was used to quickly brush out lines and textures. It was as exciting to capture their flashy movements as it is to watch them fly upstream!
Talk about a thrill of a lifetime! "Salmon Run" has been selected to be presented at a virtual concert collaboration with Margin Alexander, world renowned composer and pianist and other visual artists. It was livestreamed from NYC on Aug. 24, 2023 at 7pm. See the attached flyer for ticket information for future concerts and collaborations. I am deeply honored to have Mr. Alexander present this piece with music he specifically composed for it. The result absolutely floored me. He captured the fast paced movement of these incredible creatures perfectly. When I receive my copy of the video, I will gladly include a copy with the purchase of the original painting.
This is also available as framed or unframed giclee prints here, and as high quality, sustainably produced apparel and home décor on my storefront at https://www.legaleriste.com/joann.renner-visual.artist
