Statement
Expressionist oils and pastels, looking for the unseen, sense of experience.
My focus for this series are Surrealist/Expressionist images dealing with women's issues, spirituality, folklore and mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD, mostly from the point-of-view of the sufferer. The examination of feelings of possibilities & uncertainties as one goes through life can be an awareness of the intangible, or simply a sense of being and experience. These experiences can be intensely profound, sometimes spiritual, and can have either fleeting or lasting effects which are often unseen or misunderstood by others.
The goal is to bridge that gap between conscious and unconscious awareness. A few important influences include Kathe Kollwitz, Paula Modersohn-Becker, and Japanese culture.
