Dusk view of the Jones & Laughlin Steel Mill on the Monongahela River in Pittsburgh, PA during the last years of its existence during the late 1970's and early 1980s. The mills are gone from this area but the Hot Metal Bridge is still there as a reminder to thousands of commuters of how this amazing city was originally built. The subject reonated with me as I was attending Pitt in the mid-1980s and could see these very mills from my dorm room. The next year they were shuttered and later dismantled. Now the area is home to tech companies and a major revitalization. The modern city skyscrapers in the back foreshadow the upcoming tech boom.
Original painting is oil on canvas with handmade heavy duty wood stretchers and wire hanger. The edges are painted gray so it is ready to display.
