MessageCollection: Biomorphic Abstracts
My recent work has been largely focused on biomorphic abstraction which is abstraction that “incorporates a visual language based on biomorphic shapes—bulbous, lush, sumptuous looking forms—that are neither representative nor geometric.” These shapes began to intrigue me during the pandemic when I started a new series with artwork and titles that were meant to be whimsical. I felt that not only I but others needed some comic relief during this rather grim and isolating timeframe. When I created the first biomorphic piece it morphed into a fruit-based theme . As the artwork developed and was near completion, I noticed there was a large area that needed more interest. I happened to look over at a cardboard box that I had brought back from the store to carry my groceries and saw a beautiful graphic of lemons. So, I pulled portions of the printed design and collaged them onto the artwork. After creating a number of pieces with this theme I moved on the create pieces that were garden centric or have themes around relationships to ourselves and others; eliminating the collage elements.
