I wanted to create a sense of exuberant space with this piece using bright color, depth and transparency. A trip to the National Aquarium in Baltimore helped to inspire the feel of this piece, and the blowfish, seaweed, stinging sea nettle, and sea anemones are based on that visit. Pygmy seahorses (lower left) are incredibly small--roughly 2 cm--& their surface mimics the coral they live in.
