ReMilk is a large-scale sculptural textile artwork by Jeanne M. Connolly that reimagines the resilient milk thistle through layered recycled fabrics and expressive hand-stitching. Rooted in themes of transformation and renewal, the piece transforms discarded materials into a monumental abstract floral form.
At the top of the composition, the thistle bloom erupts in a voluminous crown of vivid pinks, soft whites, and deep greens. Constructed from gathered, knotted, and densely tufted cotton and polyester textiles — accented with tulle and organza — the bloom becomes cloudlike and dimensional. The sculptural mass projects boldly from the surface, creating dramatic shadow and depth.
Below, elongated thistle leaves radiate outward in stitched, frayed forms. Earthy olive, chartreuse, and beige tones contrast against a vintage-patterned textile base that subtly references botanical structures. The entire composition is grounded by a saturated cobalt blue backdrop, allowing the leaf system and tufted bloom to advance visually into space.
Measuring 105 × 75 × 16 cm, ReMilk functions as both painting and relief sculpture. The depth of the textile construction gives the work architectural presence, making it especially suited for collectors, designers, and contemporary interiors seeking tactile, statement-scale art.
Through reclaimed materials and meticulous hand construction, Connolly transforms the milk thistle — a plant historically associated with protection and healing — into a meditation on resilience, regeneration, and material rebirth.
