Textile Artist | Storyteller of Spanish Flora | Based in Dénia, Spain
Jeanne M. Connolly is a mixed-media textile artist based in Dénia, Spain, known for her evocative large-scale works that celebrate Mediterranean flora, cultural memory, and the power of transformation. Working primarily with hand-painted textiles, recycled materials, and vintage fabrics, Jeanne constructs richly layered compositions that blend narrative and texture to explore the beauty found in imperfection and reinvention.
Drawing inspiration from the vibrant landscapes and historical traditions of Spanish life, her practice incorporates embroidery, patchwork, and sand-based painting to create tactile pieces that feel both grounded and ethereal. Her background in creative direction and vintage design informs her intuitive sense of composition, storytelling, and color.
Jeanne’s work has been exhibited in the Biennal de Valencia and twice in Art al Vent, Spain’s renowned international textile art exhibition. In 2025, she was named a finalist in the Conceptual and Collage category of the Tartget Painting Prize, recognized for her innovative fusion of textures, visual elements, and avant-garde techniques that challenge traditional definitions of painting.
Jeanne is also the founder of Galería Oculta, a hidden home gallery on Calle Loreto in Dénia. There, she hosts intimate exhibitions, by-appointment viewings, and creative retreats that offer visitors a chance to slow down, connect with nature, and rediscover their creative spirit.
Statement
Artist Statement — Jeanne M. Connolly
My work is a tactile exploration of memory, impermanence, and place. Rooted in the textures of Mediterranean life, I use hand-painted textiles, vintage fabrics, and found materials to build layered, large-scale compositions that celebrate both the natural world and the beauty of reinvention. Living in Dénia, Spain, I draw inspiration daily from the coastal landscape, Spanish flora, and the rhythms of traditional craft.
Each piece I create begins with a sense of curiosity—about a forgotten fabric, a fleeting bloom, or a story that longs to be retold. I often work intuitively, letting color and texture lead, embracing the imperfections that arise along the way. This process allows me to create artworks that feel alive, grounded, and emotionally resonant.
I believe in the power of slowness, in looking closely, in honoring materials that once held life. Through my practice, I hope to offer viewers a moment of pause—a chance to reconnect with the handmade, the natural, and the poetic details of everyday life.
